Chalet MM

Date

Location

Switzerland

A new-build mountain chalet in a Swiss village. The design by SPINK referenced the hierarchy of a listed, local 15th century manor house with its chalk-white rendered ‘sockel’ (lower floor) and the timber upper floors. Here, floor finishes progress from stone to timber, while the floorboard widths and ceiling beams progressively reduce as the spans and structure change throughout the building. The chalet is entered from the north courtyard and its main south facade captures panoramic views of the mountains.
